Abstract

Loss on Ignation (LOI) adalah suatu parameter yang digunakan dalam salah satu analisa untuk mengetahui kadar air atau zat yang hilang saat pembakaran. Pengukuran ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kadar air dan senyawa organik (% Organic Matter) yang terdapat pada tanah, lumpur dan limbah (waste). Perhitungan LOI dapat diketahui melalui perbandingan berat sampel sebelum dan sesudah tanah dibakar. Kehilangan berat tersebut hanya dapat diamati pada suhu di atas 4000C, perubahan berat tersebut disebabkan oleh kerusakan struktural pada bahan organik tanah dan hilangnya air dari mineral lempung (Hoogsteen, 2015). Pada penelitian kali ini, untuk mengetahui kadar LOI di layer limonit sebesar 10%-11%, saprolit 11%-13% dan bedrock 13%-16%. Perbandingan nilai LOI di setiap layer tidak dapat dijadikan sebagai justifikasi (judgement) untuk zona laterit secara menyeluruh. Hal tersebut disebabkan karena karakteristik material tanah di setiap daerah berbeda akibat dari proses pembentukan yang berbeda.
